Shane previously held the role of Chief Medical Officer at Cognate Health, serving a range of large clients.

He served as a consultant to numerous international companies, providing guidance to Corporate Health Departments in the design and implementation of OH Programs across their businesses globally.

He was the Founder and Clinical Director of Cognate Health Ltd. from 2015 to its eventual sale to UK listed Optima Health plc in 2025.

He is an MD specialising in Occupational Medicine, having graduated in 1985 at University College Cork (UCC). He received a Membership of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine in 1992, and subsequently a Fellowship in 1997.

He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland since 2005, an adjunct Professor at the School of Public Health in UCC, and the Academic Director of the Diploma in Safety, Health & Welfare at Work.
